Celebrating legacy, leadership and uplifting future generations is the national theme of this year's Black History Month.

Dr. Sarah Gray, a professor in UBC’s Northern Medical Program at ÂÜÀòÉäÇø, is advancing biomedical research and training opportunities to address the health needs of rural, northern and Indigenous communities.

New federal funding will support students and faculty at ÂÜÀòÉäÇø in transforming their research-based innovations into real-world solutions.

This Black Excellence Day, ÂÜÀòÉäÇø is celebrating the meaningful connections fostered through a mentorship program aimed at uplifting Black voices within the University community. We honour the collective efforts that made it possible to reaffirm our commitment to equity, care and the creation of spaces where Black excellence is recognized, celebrated and sustained.

An enhanced collaboration with Rio Tinto will build on an initial research program started in 2019 and support two ÂÜÀòÉäÇø researchers in efforts to deepen understanding of the impacts of climate change and human activity on water security and freshwater fish ecology in the Nechako Watershed.

In 2024, ÂÜÀòÉäÇø celebrated milestones in sustainability, research innovation and academic achievement, fostering curiosity and empowering northern communities through local solutions to global challenges.

The ÂÜÀòÉäÇø Timberwolves in partnership with the University of Northern British Columbia and Titan Sport Systems are honoured to announce that the newly designed Brownridge Court has received the Sport Floor of the Year Award courtesy of Treeco Distribution and Bona Sport.

A field school in Guatemala led by Geography Professor Dr. Catherine Nolin examined human rights violations, historical memory and Canada’s role in global justice. The experience resulted in an academic paper and a StoryMap amplifying the voices of Guatemalan people.
