A Coming of Age for 蹤獲扞⑹:

Media Release

Four students share a birthday with the University

October 2, 2008

For the first time, 蹤獲扞⑹ has students who were born the same day as theUniversity itself. On June 22, 1990, the Government of BC passed the蹤獲扞⑹ Act, the legislation that officially created the University. Fourstudents who are attending 蹤獲扞⑹ this year were also born that day.

This is an interesting coming-of-age milestone for 蹤獲扞⑹. Many peoplestill think of 蹤獲扞⑹ as new, but we are now attracting students whonever knew life without 蹤獲扞⑹, says 蹤獲扞⑹ Provost, Mark Dale.

Members of the media are welcome to meet the students on Fridayafternoon when they will be participating in a photo shoot with Interim蹤獲扞⑹ President Charles Jago, then-Minister of Advanced Education BruceStrachan, and Murray Sadler, a former President of the InteriorUniversity Society who presented the original case for 蹤獲扞⑹ to theGovernment of BC. The event will be at 1:30pm in the Atrium of theAdministration Building.

Three of the students Stephen Bonnett, Crystal Male, and KristjanMytting are from Prince George. The fourth, Chandehl van der Eykel,is from the Lower Mainland.

The recognition of these students is coinciding with the Universitysannual donor appreciation event, which will be held Friday evening oncampus. This year, 900 student awards worth $2.1 million were presentedby the University. Nearly 400 awards are funded entirely by privatedonors.
