University of Northern British Columbia student - 24-year old James Moore - has been elected a Member of Parliament in the Port Moody-Coquitlam-Port Coquitlam riding. James ran as a candidate for the Canadian Alliance and secured about 50% of the votes during the balloting on Monday, to finish ahead of incumbent Liberal MP Lou Sekora.

James first registered at ÂÜÀòÉäÇø in 1998, and has completed the requirements for a bachelor's degree in Political Science. He will be receiving his ÂÜÀòÉäÇø BA at the May 25th Convocation ceremony. He has also taken some initial courses towards completing a ÂÜÀòÉäÇø master's degree. During his time at ÂÜÀòÉäÇø, James was actively involved in university life, serving as President of the ÂÜÀòÉäÇø Political Science Students' Association. In addition to this, and his course load, James worked for 550CKPG radio in Prince George, as host of his own talk show on political issues.

"James has a passion, not only for politics, but for sound principles and he has a refined sense of the public good," says ÂÜÀòÉäÇø Political Science professor Dr John Young. "James is exceptionally able, and he will be an effective voice in Ottawa."
