Td Bank Financial Group Helps Students In Need
April 1, 1999 For Immediate Release
The TD Bank Financial Group has committed $75,000 to the University of Northern British Columbia to provide support to students with financial need.
The TD Bank contribution is indicative of its traditional support of children and youth. With increased financial obligations facing students, TD's donation will allow numerous students the opportunity to continue with their studies.
"ÂÜÀòÉäÇø applauds the commitments of TD to directly assist students in their pursuit of a university education," says ÂÜÀòÉäÇø President Charles Jago. "For many students, a bursary can make the difference between attending university or not."
"TD is very happy to be helping students realize their potential by taking advantage of the tremendous opportunities a post-secondary education offers," says Brian Haier, Senior Vice-President, Pacific Division, TD Bank Financial Group.
TD's contribution is to an endowed award fund, meaning the interest generated by the contribution will be available for students every year. It's expected that the endowment will generate approximately $5000 in student awards each year.
ÂÜÀòÉäÇø's fundraising campaign, North to the Future: Building on Success, is aiming to raise $15 million over seven years for student awards, research initiatives, athletic facilities, First Nations programs, and projects geared to enhancing student success. The Building on Success phase is following ÂÜÀòÉäÇø's first fundraising campaign, which raised $15.7 million between 1992-98.
