Alex Reed today fills a newly created University of Northern British Columbia position which is geared to consolidating a variety of student services.

The new Associate Vice-President for Student Services/Registrar oversees admissions, registration, financial aid, the Academic Success Centre, counselling, the Fitness Centre, Co-operative Education, International Programs, the student residences, and off-campus housing services. The position was created to establish overall leadership for a wide range of services utilized by students.

"I see my role as a champion of the many services we offer to students," says Mr Reed. "We'll be pulling together units like the Registrar's Office, Student Services, and Housing under one umbrella and one common vision. The goal is to continue to develop good service for students and bring their issues forth to the entire ÂÜÀòÉäÇø community."

Mr Reed comes to ÂÜÀòÉäÇø from Athabasca University north of Edmonton where he had been Registrar since 1992. He is also a former Councillor and Deputy Mayor of the Town of Athabasca.

He is married with five children and his eldest child is a ÂÜÀòÉäÇø student.
